When I Knew My Mindset Shifted... About Life

The last few years of my life I have idolized the “busy, hustle, money and security” - I’m not sure why or when this shift happened in my mind that being busy meant I was doing life right. That hustling through everyday was the secret to success. With a hyper productive mind and surrounding myself around those with a similar hustle mentality as me, I completely lost focus on what life was about… little did I know this is how you waste the one life you have.

I’ve been blessed with someone in my life that has helped me open my eyes to this hustle lifestyle I was living and the poison it can be - after years and months at a time it isn’t always a good thing. I was soon realizing what life is about.. and that we only have one life to live.

This is when I began prioritizing myself, my relationships, the outdoors, what I loved to do and actually living. My life had just begun after all the years I thought I was living right. Our society praises the busy and hustle we can get into, although what we need most is relationships, love, compassion and adventure.

I learned that humans aren’t designed to be hustling machines, we aren’t meant to produce hyper productivity and work at all times.. we are humans who are meant to explore, adventure and love unconditionally. Note, I still will have this hyper productive drive that may never go away and I do credit it to where I am and at the age I am - but it’s important to turn this off when necessary.

I began to dedicate my free time to things I loved, I began giving myself more free time, more time to explore and adventure, less idolizing towards money and security - knowing that things will ALWAYS work out, always. This is something I have to remember every. single. day, I’m literally having to break my natural instinct of grinding and working all the time to force myself to enjoy the day we have, knowing tomorrow isn’t promised. It’s a constant effort and exercise for my mind to practice but this is when I realized my mindset had shifted about the life we are given and how precious the loved ones around us are.

This is something that comes with time. The more life you live and experience the more you see the important things that matter in life - I will continue to learn this every single day. At the end of the day there will always be more work, more meetings, more errands to run.. but there won’t always be a day your loved ones are only a visit or phone call away, traveling won’t always be available, having the time to do what you love won’t always be there.. take advantage of it now, while you can.

Look at your life and where your prioritizing of your time is going. Is it fulfilling you? Are you helping, caring and loving the relationships around you? Are you living your life and day to the fullest? Are you working on someone else’s dream or your own?
