Let’s dive into my best tips when beginning to build your website:

Buy Your Domain

I suggest owning and buying your domain. This is because it will be branded to you, your brand, your company or services. It appears much more professional visiting a site that is “zoeyberghoff.com” versus “zoeyberghoff.wordpress.com.”

This shows you’re serious about what you’re working on, you’re willing to invest in yourself and you will own it for as long as you choose. Depending what the domain is it is relatively cheap.

I personally pay $12/year to own my name. A long time ago it was suggested to me to buy my name for a domain. Because, how mad would you be if someone owned your full name?

Decide What Your Website Is For

Are you building a blog? Portfolio? Or freelance and services site? It’s important to have your ideal finished product in mind. This will help you when building your website. Keep in mind your end goal and who you are expecting and hoping visits your website.

Who is your ideal website visitor?

What are they visiting your website for?

What do you want them to see within the first 2 minutes?

Utilize a Website Platform to Build It

There are so many website platforms you can utilize to build a website for yourself. Use these! They were created to help you and make the website building process easier. You can choose free or inexpensive options to help you build your website. These provide a user friendly interface to make the process as seamless as possible.

I’m not saying you won’t have to use your googling skills to get the vision you’re looking for in place BUT it will make it easier. You won’t need to code, you will be able to drag & drop, upload and edit easily. If it requires you to pay the small amount, I advise you to pay it! You will be able to visually see the difference in those who pay a small fee for their websites and those who do not.

I suggest when building your website you have a few “inspiration” sites that you like the navigation, menu, site layout and overall visuals. This will make the creation process easier on you!

Are you still not sure where to start? You don’t have to tackle this alone!
