What I Eat In a Day While Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting was a topic that many people wanted to know more about so I wanted to dive into it. This is the action of restricting your eating hour window to a specific few hours and putting your body into a fast for an extended period of time.

I personally aim to eat during a 8-hour window and fast for 16 hours. Remember, there are multiple windows you can do and this is the one I’ve found that works for me.

To give you an idea of what I eat and when I eat it during the day I’m sharing what I eat in a day! To give you a little background I have been intermittent fasting for 4 years and I have been practicing a vegan and vegetarian diet for 4 years as well. This is what works for my body and why I continue to do it, everyone is different!

This was a completely honest review of what I eat in a day with absolutely no preparation, meaning I wasn’t eating only fruits and vegetables that are so beautifully photographed to share with you. I decided to capture what I eat in a day the day of and just captured what I would eat during a normal day for me.

Let’s dive into it!

What I ate IN A DAY

Morning:

  • 5AM - 1 scoop of Pre-Workout

    • This is the first thing along with water that I have in my days. Some say pre-workout will break a fast although this is the only thing in my stomach + water until noon and for how long my days are I’m just not willing to go without it especially when I have to get myself to the gym so early.

  • 9AM-12PM - Water

    • I aim to drink around 70oz of water before lunch. Water will fill you up, keep you energized and this is a great time that I can focus on hydrating myself for the day.

  • Tip** I personally do not drink coffee or tea but you are able to drink black coffee or tea without breaking a fast. Anything under 50 calories technically will not break this for your body.

Lunch:

  • 12:20PM - Healthy Snack

    • This isn’t something I always do but I happened to eat just a handful of carrots and avocado ranch to snack on while I was making my lunch. This was my first meal of the day that broke my fast.

  • 1:05PM - Lunch

    • This was my first big meal of the day. I had brought roasted broccoli, sweet potatoes, and tofu that I cooked in the oven at 400 for 25 minutes with light oil and salt & pepper.

  • 2:06PM - After Lunch Treat

    • I’m human and also crave sugar. It’s bad but everyone that knows me knows this about me. My work is stocked with unhealthy treats and snacks which are a constant temptation. I had about 4 small chocolate chip cookies to satisfy my sweet tooth and then ditched the rest in the trash.

  • Snacking Tip** A BIG tip I have for snacking is you should never feel obligated to finish the bag of anything.

Afternoon:

  • 2PM - 4PM - Water

    • This is when I try to drink another 70oz of water in the afternoon. The water intake will keep you energized, awake and fuller.

  • 4:30PM - Snack

    • Another work temptation that I gave into. Before I left for work I knew I wouldn’t eat that much before I went to rock climb so a bag of chips held me over which isn’t a great snack but did the job.

Evening:

  • 6PM - Half scoop of pre-workout

  • 9PM - Snack + Dinner

    • I had 10 Pop Corner Kettle Corn chips and half of a vegan burrito and these were the last thing I ate for the day.

Be Realistic

As you can see I technically ate from 12:20pm to 9:20pm which is 9 hours with a 15-hour fasting window. I try to abide by the 8-hour and 16-hour windows but I’m not crazy strict with it. I’ve found it’s just not always realistic to live your life and eating habits based around a clock. It’s a goal I aim to be on or around every day for my eating window but life happens.
